,' WELLINGTON, December 16. Mr.Beetham, Commissioner, opeued an enquiry into the death of Ah Cliing at the j Asylum this morning, but there was no appearance of tbe petitioners. A letter was received instead from Mr. Jellicoe, their counsel, complaining that they could not go to the expense of bringing witnesses who might not be considered necessary by the Commissioner, Dr. Hackon, of Christchurch, beiog one. They had asked for reasonable assistance and reasonable op. portunity to prepare the case, and, on the request being refused, Mr. Jelliooe said he was uaab/e to take part in the enquiry. | Mr. Brandon, on behalf of Dr t Foobes, Baid the latter courted the fullest enquiry. Mr. Beetham said he would probably go on with the enquiry, but in the meantime would adjourn till to-morrow.
