The excitement amongst the children of tbe public school culminated last night (Thursday), when the breaking- up enter, tainment was given by tbe children and their friends. The attendance was large, the hall being filled. A staging consisting of four tiers had been erected on tbe stage, and proved a very great assistance to Mr. Law io keeping the voices together. Although on\y practising daring tbe previous fortnight, remarkable progress was manifested throughout the concerted pieces. The time was faultlessly taken, whilst the^ expression was very nice. Tbe following is the programme : — Glee, " Christmas boxeß " ; aoting song, •• Now we little children " ; glee, " That naughty young kitten called Puff " ; aoting song, "The little teacher"; recitation, " Jeanie McNeil," Katie Mitchell; glee, " Hush a bye baby " ; aoting song, 11 Pussy's class " ; glee, " The little pigs" ; reoitation, " Modern logic," Alfred Gamlin ; aoting song, " This is east and this is west " ; glee, " Tbe cbild'B good-night." Tbe distribution of prizes was then then undertaken by by the chairman, Mr. Brennan, who explained tbat tbis year tue prizes were awarded on tbe position of scholars at tbe annual examination in reading, spelling, dictation, and arithmetic, thoße being the only subjects now marked by the Inspeotor. The following is tbe prize-list : —

Second part of programme : — Glee, "Springtime;" recitation, "Bingen on the Bbine," C. Gamlin; glee, "Leaf by leaf the roses fall ;" recitation, •• The Spanish champion," Albert Foreman ; glee, "Dear old home;" recitation, by six boyß, " The choice of trades ;" glee, 11 Sparkling water ;" glee, " Evening bells."

I Mr. Law very ably conducted the glees, 1 Miss Slattery directed tbe action songs witb precision, and Mrs. King played tbe accompaniments in very nice etyle. Tbe glees ebowed tbat very hard practice bad taken place daring the short time that tbe children bad been rehearsing, and the concert was very creditable to each of those concerned in tbe training of the pupije. The pianiste " deserves especial mention for tbe time, devoted to tbe preparation of tbe glees. The scholars were very tastefully dressed, and when a nnenber of the younger ones had huge dolls served out to tbem by tbe teachers great amusement was caused bj the apparently never-ending supply. Theee dolls were used in two cf tbe action songs witb good effect. .
