KAPONGA.
(FBOM OUR OWN OOREESPONDENT.)
A pleasant little ceremony was enaoted here on Thursday evening, tbe Ist inst., tbe occasion being Mr. H. W. Davy's departure from Kaponga. A large number cf settlers assembled in tbe Town Hall, where a nice " spread " was provided and enjoyed by those present.
After the good things were partaken of, Mr. E. J. Elleriri (who occupied the chair) stated that owing to unforseen circumstanceß this meeting bad been delayed, but as Mr. Davy was about to bid farewell to Kaponga for " fresh fields and pastures new " he was sure -all - would join witb him in wishing Mr. Davy every success and prosperity tbat could possibly attend himi" He had known Mr. Davy 'ior -10 years, and during tbat time bad always found him straightforward and honest in all bis transactions. He (Mr. Davy) was one of the first pioneers of Kaponga, and had always identified himself witb' "its progress. Not a movement, had been started for its welfare but had, bis most hearty support. As a settler he was highly respected, and as a tradesman be had done more to advance the interests of Kaponga than it was in bis power to tell ; and the entire confidence which he undoubtedly possessed was the best and surest sign of bis work in tbe district, and that night they had met to bid him goodbye. Such as Mr. Davy tbe district oonld ill • afford to lose, and there was no doubt that Kaponga's loss was Feilding's Rain. Such being the case ie was bis pleasant duty to present to Mr. Davy a testimonial as a token of the good feeling and fellowship whioh bad always existed between him and the people of Kaponga. ■ " i .'
