A meeting re abolition of tolls was held at the Town Hall, Opunake, on Saturday, 26th November, Mr. Q. W. Bogera (chair. man Town Board), in the chair. There were from 20 to 30 ratepayers present. Mr. T. H. Straucban, lately member of tbe County Council, gave some interesting in* formation. Tolls, special rate, separation, new county were spoken upon, eaofafhaving advocates. Some speakers considered tbat ratepayers having already petitioned for removal of toll-gates it would not be efifec* tive to do so again. It was pointed oat that very few ratepayers north of Rahotu bad Bigned the petition. The whole of the Biding should be asked to petition for tbe removal ot the gates. Resolved, Tbat a petition be prepared for signature to tbe council to abolish tbe toll-gates. Resolved, That Messrs. Rogers, Cbing, McGloin, Hiekey, and Gane, be a committee to draw up petition, See. The anticipated arrival of the Qaeen of the Soath in a few days' time, when it is stated she will discbarge and load at tot jetty, is a constant subject of conversatibDi and tbe event is anxiously looked forward to. The Northern Steamship Company won t allow their steamers to discharge •£ the wharf, and have issued instraetiani that their eteamers mast be tendered by boats as formerly. *
