WOODVILLE, September 29.
Tbe information laid by Dr. Davenport against William Symee, J.P., chemist, was heard to-day, before Mr Turnbnll, R.M. Mr Baker, for informant, explained the^oircumstances whioh rendered it necessary, and the duty of informant to lay tbe information, and said be proposed to oall evidence to show that accused had performed an illegal operation on Elizabeth Hall.
DUNEDIN, September 80.
The City Council passed a resolution protesting against the erection of a permanent gaol in tbe present central position. A company is being floated in London to convert the present tramway service into an electric overhead line. WELLINGTON, September 29.
The Taupo left Greymouth on Saturday night for Lyttelton, and was scon outside the Wellington Heads by the Penguin on Monday night, but nothing baß been heard of her since. Some anxiety is felt as to her fate, but tbe Union Company think she may have broken down, and, being a bad sailor, anable to make refuge near any telegraph station.
