The Thoboughbred Hobse, FOUL SHOT By Musket, out of Mr. Walters' Slander. (Vide N.Z. Stud Book.) Foul Shot is a beautiful dapple bay, with black points, and stands 16 bands 1 inch high. Re is a powerful thoroughbred horse, with immense bone and muscle; has legs like bars of iron, with powerful quarters, and greatly reßembles hia sire, Musket. Foul Shot's stock are allowed by competent judges to be the finest lot that bave ever been seen on the coast, and his stock out of thoroughbred mares are admitted to be equal to anything in New Zealand, either for good looks, size, or quality. Foul Shot started three times as a two-year-old. W^n the Welcome Stakes, and ran second to Thunderbolt for the Midsummer Stakes and New Year's Gift. As a three-year-old be wott the Great Northern Perby— time, 2m. 40|s. — beating Stonyhurst; and his next win was the Grand Stand Handicap. He also ran second to Derringer for the N.Z. The Champion Dbaught Stallion ROBERT THE BRUCE, Robert the Bruce, bred by Mr. James Petrie, Stirling, is a dapple bay; stands 17 hands high, witb great bone and muscle, short baob, deep quarters, with great style and action. ROBEET THE Bruce, by Auditor out of Blossom ; Auditor, bred by the Hon. M. Holmes, and got by Young Banker; Auditor's dam, Pearl, brpd by Mr. J. Harman, "Victoria. Auditor, in 1681, at the Olutha Show, a o a three-year-old, gained tbe gold medal against all comers and the champion prize for tbe best horae on the ground. The same year, at Mataura Show, he gained two prizes, competing with aged horses, and a silver cup for the beat three year old colt. At Mataura in 1883 he gained the silver | cup. Auditor's dam, Pearl, by Hero (imp.), dam by Matchless (imp.). Pearl was a great breeder ; her daughter, Sapphire, was first at Dunedin and Oamaru three years in succession. Robert the Bruce's dam, Blossom, by Taieri Lad, bred by Messrs McDonald Brothers, Inch Clutba, out of Lucy, by Comet. Blossom, as a two year old in 1878, trained tbe silver modal as a first prize at the Clntha, and as a prize taker was never beaten in local competition in the O'.utha. Taieri Lad by Emperor ; Emperor by Napolebn, imported from Scotland by the late J. Nimmo, Esq. Comet was bred by tbe late J. Nimmo, Esq. ; Oomet's *>ire, The Marquis, imported from "Victoria by the late Robert Miller; The Marquis' aire tbe renowned Prince Charlie. Comet's dam, Jean, imported from Scotland by tho late J. Nimmo, Esq. Jean was bred by Alexander Galbraitb, Oraigiecunaboua, Killara, Stirlingshire; Jean's sire, Justice, a famed prize winner. Jean's dam, Old Jean, llio winner of j over twenty first pnzin, and was never beaten in her day ('imet'a dam took five first prizes b<foie leaving Scotland, and over twenty firsts in Otago ; she was only beaten once, by her own ! daughter. I Robert the Bruce, as a two year- > old, took firßt at tbe Clutba aud Mataura Shows respectively. In 1885 be took first prize at the Waikouaiti Royal Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Show, and second at the Palmerston South Sbow tbe same year. In 1887 he took first and champion prize at Inver. oargill.
