(PEB Kf&SS ASSOCIATION.")

MELBOURp!, April 80/ •}•; Nothing fresh bas occurred at Deeming's trial. The prisoner's demeanor is .that of a man who has abandoned hope ; be looks careworn and dejected.

LONDON, Aoril 29.

Id his affidavit Edward Deeming-de- 1 olares that his father cruelly treated his wife before the birth of Frederick. Ho also says that bis father always disliked and ill-treated Fred, who proved to be a stubborn and intractable youth. Returning after long wanderings, in distant lands, Fred exhibited noticeable eccentricities, and showed a strange conceit of himself — a trait in his character which had not been observed before he left home. His father, Edward goes on to say in the affidavit, Attempted to commit suicide on four different occasions, and eventually died imbecile.

Mrs. Edward Deeming has made an additional affidavit partly confirming the account of Frederick's delusions with ragard to the appearance of his mother, but denying that ehe ever heard Frederick assert that his mother prompted him to murder females. ,

Owing to the fact tbat Mr. Lyle has withdrawn from tbe detenoe in Melbourne, the London solicitors decline to cable the contents of affidavits made by Deemings' relatives until a guarantee is given for the payment of costs.
