(Before Mr. Justice Oonolly.) RICHARD JOHN CHAMBERS (APPELLANT) ▼. MAEGARET CHAMBERS (RESPONDENT.) This waß an appeal from the decision of Mr. 0., 0. Kettle, R.M., delivered at Hawera, by whioh the appellant (the husband of the respondent) was ordered to ooctribute the sum of 7s 6d a .week towards the maintenance and support of his wife jfthe respondent) under "The Destitute Persons Belief Act, 1877." ' Mr.- Hutchison appeared for the appellant, and Mr. Barton for the respondent. Mtet some preliminary objections by Afr. Barton had been disposed of,. Mr. Hiitchisdn proceeded to argue the oase on behalf of the appellant,' endeavoring to show that the E.M.s decision was, wrong on several grounds. On the conclusion of Mr. -Hutchison s argument, His Honor informed Mr. Barton that jie did not consider it necessary to call' on him to reply, as he was perfectly satisfied with the judgment ot the E.M., andftSuKhfit ought to be upheld. His HondniWving.revieweil the fact's as Btated -tattiecasS'Sp 'appeal,-- and dealt with the legal points raised by Mr. Hutchison, •OQ.nfilad.ed"#s follows :— lt is, under these circumstances, clear that the appellant must contribute towards, the support of fais wife. The proposition that a man can, by simply forbidding his/wife to go Aaway from her home on a visu to her for ever afterwards refuse'to have anything to do with her or support her if ehe disobeys him is absurd/ and snob a state of things cannot now-a-days be tolerated. This appeal must be dismissed, with iHGLIOs cpstß.— News.
