(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, May 21. Mr. H. S. Valentine, M.H.R. for Wakaia, was married to-day at StAndrew's Presbyterian Church, to Miss Linck, who only arrived here by the Tongariro on Saturday. There was a large attendance, and the bride was given away by Sir Maurice O'Rorke. AUCKLAND, May 22. The remains of J. Brown, late storekeeper of the Public Works Department, and who had been missing for some time, have been found in the Waikato River between Ngaruawahia and Taupiri. DUNEDIN, May 19. The Otago Daily Times to-day makes this explanation of the Colonial Bank's advance to the Government: — On the error in tbe Loan Bill coming to light the Treasurer applied to the Colonial Bank for the sum of i-400,000, authorised to be raised for three yearß under the Public Revenues Act, to meet the accumulation of deficiencies until the colony could better afford to provide for these back debts out of revenue. The money was required by the Government at tbe time in London, and the whole sum was advanced by the Bank at once in London, at 5 per cent, net, i.e., without any charges for agency or exchange, such as have been customary in previous transactions of the kind. The time thus gained by the Government is likely to be doubly valuable, in that the two million loan about to be placed on the market will now enjoy the full benefit of the rise in value of colonial securities, consequent on Mr. Goschen's conversion scheme.
