WELLINGTON, January 27. The Gazette notifies the appointment of Lieut. C. H. Borlase to be captain of the Wanganui Rifles.

A meeting of the Exhibition Commissioners took place this afternoon, when it was resolved, That Sir James Hector should send the following cablegram to the Secretary of the Melbourne Exhibition —Public interest in the exhibition warrants the commissioners increasing application to 20,000 ft of floor space, excluding fernery and art gallery.
