WELLINGTON, January 27. The Gazette notifies the appointment of Lieut. C. H. Borlase to be captain of the Wanganui Rifles.
A meeting of the Exhibition Commissioners took place this afternoon, when it was resolved, That Sir James Hector should send the following cablegram to the Secretary of the Melbourne Exhibition —Public interest in the exhibition warrants the commissioners increasing application to 20,000 ft of floor space, excluding fernery and art gallery.
A proclamation in the Gazetto further prorogues Parliament to the 28th of March.
The list of ministers officiating under the Marriage Act ; also a list of medical practitioners and dentists, appear in the Gazette to-night.
The Government have received a cable message from the Premier of New South Wales to the effect that the extra supply of 50 Martini-Henri rifles required for New Zeaaland for the Rifle Association cannot be spared.
AUCKLAND, January 2G. A bulk test made with 14cwt of Maritoto ore returned loz 14dwt of gold, valued at £2 16s per ounce. Mr. T. Peacock, member for Ponsonby, addressed his constituents last night, and received a vote of thanks.
DUNEDIN, January 28. Bell's flax mill, at Inch Clutha, was destroyed by fire. The loss is .£2OO. No DBurance.
The Coroner'B jury found a verdict that the fire at Gatlen's river hotel was the result of incendiarism.
