fPROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Tbe annual general meeting of tbe Manaia Public Library was held on Thursday eveniug, 17th November. Mr. Stewart, chairman of directors, occupied tbe cbair, and read the treasurer's balance-sheet, a resumt of which you have already published. After a few remarks aR to the satisfactory state in which tbe finances of tbe library were shown to be, the balancesheet and the librarian's report were adopted. Tbe retiring directors were re-elected — namely, Messrs. Lewis, Stewart, Dawson, Woodward, Allsworth, and Hurley, together with Mr. Mclntosh. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Allawortb for the large amount of work performed by him as librarian during the past year practically gratuitously. Several members spoke to the resolution, conveying their best thanks to Mr. Allswortb for bis bard work. Mr. Allswurth acknowledged the vote of thanks with pleasure, and said he thought every man in a small place should do a little to help on tbe public library. Mr. Allsworth was re-elected honorary secretary and Mr. Hurley hon. treasurer. ] It was decided, 00. cCie motion of t>ne chairman, to have a variety entertainment on race night (Boxing Night), the main feature in which would be an illustration of English, Irish, and Scotch songs, both comic and sentimental. It was decided to leave the arrrangements in the hands of Messrs. Stewart, Dawson, and Hurley. The reason for fixing on the 26th Deo. is that any proceeds will help to swell the amounts received up to 81st December, oo which Government subsidy will be paid. The annual subscription will be £1, and the quarterly subscription 5s 6d, in advance.
