AUCKLAND, November 21. A private cable message received in town by C. F. McMillan, representative in Auckland of the well-known London and colonial firm of McArthur and Co., announced the death in London of Sir William McArthur, bead of tbat firm. AUCKLAND, November 22. £((en Frances Brown, charged vrith perjury in the affiliation case against Geo. Fooley, was committed for trial. At about 11.30 last night a fire broke out in an unoccupied nine-roomed house at Newton, belonging to M. Casey, who bought it unfinished last week. This house and tbe adjoining one, owned and occupied by Petty, were completely destroyed. Petty 'a bouse was insured for £300 in tbe South British. There was a building risk of £150 on Casey's. At about 1 o'clock this morning, a serious outbreak of fire occurred at the Woollen Company's works at Onehunga. The fire was in the dyeing and drying sheds adjoining the main building, but by prompt efforts it was prevented from spreading. The origin is supposed to be the heating of wool. Everything was secure at 11.30 last night. Tbe damage is about £200 ; insured in South British.
