(PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PORT CHALMERS, November 7. cThe'German brig Astria arrived yesterday/from Hamburg. On September 10, when off tbe Cape of Good Hope, Ernest Slimbar, ordinary seaman, while loosening topsail, fell overboard and was drowned.

Shareholders in the Manaia Dairy Cornmeet to-night to consider their position. At a meeting of the Manaia Eace Fund subscribers it was decided to hold a race meeting this year as usual. A report will appear to-morrow. At Budge and McCutchan's horse fair at Manaia on Saturday, Mr. B. Higginson was riding rather a " rusty " horse, when tbe latter reared and fell backwards, the rider fortunately escaping unhurt. A meeting to consider the best means of opening up new markets for dairy produce will be held at Stratford on Saturday next. The hour is not mentioned, but will donbtless be notified. Messrs. Nolan, Tonks, and Co. held a satisfactory sale of sections, &c, at Hawera, on Saturday. A five-acre section on the Lake road was knocked to Mr. W. Suit on for .£IOO. after brisk competition. A cottage and half-acre section on the Glover road was sold for £100. A public meeting was held at Stratford on Saturday in order 10 assist in the movement in favor of the Stratford route. A committee was appointed to work in conjunction with the Stratford railway committee at Hawera. It was agreed to adopt the petition framed at Hawera with each Blight modifications as might be xequired. Messrs. Budge and McCutchan sell stock at Oeo to-morrow. Mr. G. V. Bate advertises the lease of the Branch Hotel, Eltham. Mr. W. Cowern holds a clearin? sale in late H. S. Peacock's estate, at Manutahi, to-morrow ; superior stock. Mr. Newton King sells stock at Rahotu to-morrow. Thp County Council gives notice of its intention to divide the county into three ridings. For remainder of reading matter, see fourth page.
