At the trial of the Mitohelltowu rioters, owing to Harrington, counsel for the defence, insulting witnesses, nnd the coroner approving, the Crown will not call further evidence. A bronze replica of Boehm's Sydney statue of Her Mnjesty the Queen, for which money was subscribed by the tenantry at Balmoral, has been unveiled by the Prince of Wales in the presence of Her Majesty. Intending exhibitors from Manchester, Berlin, and Belgium have requested an extension of the date fixed for applying for space for the Melbourne Exhibition. They sucgest the end ot November, and the London Committee advise that the middle of December should be the date fixed for closing applications. Mr. Arthur Blyth will, on October 24, replace Mr. Adj'e Douglas as AgentGeueral for Tasmania. The tribes of Uganda are greatly excited at the approach of Mr. Stanley and his followers. It is reported that the Imperial Government intend to concede Responsible Government to Western Australia.
The Dublin Express is of opinion that it would be better to repeal the Crimes Act if the authorities are unable to enforce it.
