The Hod. tbe Colonial Secretary states that the question ot Government running special trains on the day of tbe general elections for tbe purpose of enabling persons who have both country and town votes to exercise their full franchise is now being considered by Ministers. Mr. Buckley has urged the proposal being carried into effect, if only for financial reasons. WELLINGTON, September 5.~ The Premier of Tictoria has telegraphed to Sir B. Stout, asking him to afford facilities for disseminating information in New Zealand respecting the Centennial Exhibition in Melbourne. The Government has replied, stating that they will give every opportunity of doing so pending tbe decision of Parliament as to New Zealand's representation at the exhibition. Tbe policu intend laying an information against seventeen fruiterers and tobacconists for keeping their shops open last night. No less than three patients died at tbe Asylum on Saturday and yesterday. Death resulted from natural causes in each instance. They were all men, and none had been in any great length of time. GISBORNE, September 5. S. M. Wilson, late proprietor of the Albion Hotel (premises recently burned), who filed bis schedule after the fire, was to-day committed for trial on a charge of concealing a large amount of property from the Official Assignee. Accused made a number of extraordinary statement? with regard to property, and said that his nursemaid owned tbe buggy in his possession, having paid £50 out of her wages for it. BLENHEIM, September 5. Archbishop Redwood yesterday confirmed 100 young people, at the Catholic Church. He was presented with an address congratulating him on his elevation and eulogising the work he had done for the churcb. Over 80,000 rabbits have been tinned at tbe meat-preserving works in six weeks. Bunny is getting scarce around Blenheim compared with former days.
