COMPLAINT.

Tbthe Editor of the Star. Sib, — A short time since there was mention made in the Stab that there was likely to be a wheelbarrow competition against the railway between Patea and Hawera for the transit of goods. I have been anxiously waiting to see an advertisement from this enterprising individual, for there is ample room for such a competition. In the old days of carting, goods sometimes arrived to consignees on the same day as they were landed at Patea, bat now it usually takes two, three, and sometimes four days to get the goods from Patea after being landed. Whom or what is the cause of the delay P It is high time there was an official enquiry onto it, for it is a great annoyance and loss to consignees. For instance, the Waverley arrived at Patea on Saturday last, and goods landed from her have not yet arrived up to noon to-day ; and, the articles being of a perishable nature, and there will be a depreciation in value in consequence. Sorry for having to trespass on your space.— l am, &c, W, Kowjs, Normanby, July 6.

Colonel Trimble, MJLB., was in town to-day, en route for Patea, where Mr. Bxyce is to speak to-night. Captain Edwin, telegraphed at 1.35 p.m. to-day: — Every indication of heavy northeast to north and north-west gales, and more rain ; glass farther fall, The Waverley is unable to leave "Wellington owing to the heavy gale. She is expected to-morrow, and sails for Nelson and Wellington on Friday, at 10 a.m. Messrs. Collier and Co., the well-known mono firm, ot Wanjtanui, have a business notice in another column. It will be seen that their terms as to sale of instruments of all classes are extremely easy and IfbecaL

Megus. Nolan, Tonka, and Co., sell stock at Hawera to-morrow at 12.30. The entries ate numerous. We dzav attention to an alteration in date of Messrs. Nolan, Tonka, and Co.'s,

Manaia.
