The Referee says that tbe betting over the New Zealand Cup is beginning to liven up a bit, and probably when the weights for the Melbourne Cup make their appearance (which will be four days before the New Zealand Cup handicap will be issued) some important transactions will no doubt have to be chronicled, as a good many backers are holding off until they become cognisant of the weights allotted by the V.R.C. bandicapper to those horses that are engaged in the Melbourne and New Zealand Cups.
