TOWN BOARD MEETING.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the board wan held on Monday 13tb instant 8 p.m. There were present— Messrs. Newman (in the chair), Breach and Crawford. Minutes of May 9th and special meeting of May 30tn were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from Thoo. Mann with reference to planting trees in commemoration of tier Majesty's Jubilee offering to subscribe £1 towards tbe cost and to furnish some trees and plant and a man for a day or two to put them in. Correspondence outward. — Provincial District Auditor forwarding annual balance sheet, vouchers &a., for audit. Tarauaki Couuty Council re alterations in valuation roll and expenditure of deferred payment thirds. A. T. Kirk by.— That tbe board had no reason to alter its former decision re* specting his lease. Wilson Bros, that the board could not make any alteration in the rate book in respect of rates due to 31st March last. Resolved, That a reply be sent to Mr. Manu, that the board has not sufficient funds at present to expend upon ornamental tree planting, and thanking him for his liberal offer. Mr. Breach drew attention to the in* road of the rircr into and upon Aytonn road and he considered it was necessary for something to be do"eas a slip or two more and tbe road would be gone. It was decided that the works com* mit tee view the ground and make a general tour of inspection round the town at an early date. Resolved, That all works exceeding £2 be let by contract. Resolved, That Mr. Gane be written to requesting to be informed how the items of account are made np, and tliat the account be paid if a satisfactory reply is received. Accounts to the amount of £30 5s 8d were passed for payment, which left a credit balance after allowing for contract let, of £46 lGs 2d. The board rose.

In order to obtain as muob of the Government subsidy as possible the board has caused proceedings to be instituted in the R.M. Court. One ratepayer residing in the district who has been summoned for three consecutive years, sent the follow* ing unique reply when sending, the amount gratis without, however, the costs " accept 10s 3d rates with ten thousand compliments. Yours everlasting." An error crept into the report of the, dairy factory meeting, which appeared in Tuesdays' issue. It is there reported tha£ Mr. W. Middleton .seconded 'Mr. Kennington's motion, censuring the auditor and asking him to refund the cost of audiji. Mr. Middleton was not the seconder, and he desires the ■ correction to be made public.
