CHEAP FREIGHTS.

A circular issued by the Canterbur3' Frozen Meutand Dairy Produce Company (Limited) gives tho following statement of terms upon which the new Company pro pose to do business: — " The contract entered iuto by the directors with Messrs. Tyser and Co., of London, provides for their supplying two steamers, pach fitted to carry 22,000 carcase 3of frozen mutton, of which this company is to have two-thirds — or, say equal to 14,500 to 15,000 carcases on each steamer. The period of the contract is two years — or four voyages each steamer — from the first loading of the first s-teamer in September next. The ships, refiigeratiug machinery, and chambers are guaranteed a first-class incurable rick, and have to be maintained as such for the period of the contract, and that in addition there are several impievements on the form of contract hitherto obtained. The rates ot freight are : — Three halfpence per pound for mutton and lamb, and one penny farthing per pound for beef, with five per cent, primage, half of which primage is to be returned. Compared with the rates charged for the past six months by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, these show a reduction of Is Gd per sheep of 601b, 10 4-sth pence per lamb of 361b, and 2s s id per 1001b of beef, and by comparison with the New Zealand

Shipping. Company s rates a redaction, of 2-|d'per sheepriO 4-sth pence per lamb, and 3|d per 1001b of beef. The coispuiy have thns secured a very considerable saving in freights, 'and have also, tfie, directors hope, succeeded in putting an end to the freight monopoly from which the trade has hitherto suffered." The whole of the charges for the delivery of frozen mutton in England, including insurance, are stated to be 2d per Ib.
