GREYMOUTH, June 15. The Midland Railway Company made a trial trip yesterday of their engine, " The Reefton," for the first time. A run was started from Brunnerton down the line as far as Kinta, then back up the Midland line as far as Stilhvater. Amongst those taking part in the trip were Messrs. Alan Scott, Avigdor, Borgen, Gardner, J. Kilgour, and others. The engine was in splendid working order, and the representative of the firm who built it at Home, and who was present to-day, was complimented on the success of the work. Thus, it may be said, yesterday makes the start of the running on the Midland line. DUNEDIN, June 14. At a meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council this evening, a motion was declared carried unanimously that the whole of the Councillors should resign on the ground of not being able to work together. Some remarks mude as to smuggling an account first led to the Finance Committee? resigning ; then the Chairman of the Works Cummitteo did likewise, and then the suggestion that all should resign was adopted.
