CHEAP MEAT.

2b the Editor of the Star.

Sir, — I notice by the Wellington papers that some of the butchers there are advertising beef at forequarter Id, and hind* quarter Hd per lb. I am credibly informed that much if not most of this meat is sent from Wanganui and Hawera districts. I have been thinking that it would pay fathers of families to arrange with the Wellington butchers to rail the hindquarters of beef back to Hawera where the}' could sell for 200 per cent, or more high: r retail, than they have to accept in Wellington. I suppose the local butchers make many bad debt?, and compel the good murks to pay for the bad. If the local butchers would advertise their prices we should know whom to patronise ; let the best and cheapest firm win. — I am, &c., Beef Steak.
