Here I find a man of robust habit, assisted by two boys (one a tender infant) and two Kirls, so young- and so unfit for any other work than that at a tender mother's apron-string, tending a small herd of cows, from which, I am told, the maintenance of the family is derived. Sir, I collapse and return to England. The inducements for settling are not sufficient -in the face of this sample of wretched poverty of a stock-owner. Were it a common working man, I should think nothing of it, but I am told the man is a Battler of long standing. If I stay I may become' just such auother settler of long Standing. I grieve, bat still I return home. — I am, &c, New Chum.
