He announced himself a strong suupoiter of the pie.-pnt Government, and dwelt ou the legislation of the past session and the importance of many of the mea : sines adopted by the House, lie would only support the icpresentation Bill on th& ii»Lis oi' ihe country districts beius: provided for. lie referred at great length to the incidence of taxation aud the necessity of carefully con-Meiiug the question, with a view of ii»l!tenini» the burden of taxation rather than in increasing it by any false theoiy of proteciiou. He fully expbiined the conditions of existing taxation, quoting (rom statistics to prove thac a'l the impoilaut manufactures were gia-lually extending to fotvign markets. He refimd to a suggestion with regard to founding a home fqr the infirm on the coast, worthy of the celebraliqu of the Jubilee year.
