EDUCATION BOARD.

Ordinary monthly meeting, Monday, March 28th. Present — Messrs. Sansou, Bridge. Baker, Fry, Carson, Stevens, and Bate. APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE. Eltham, Mr. D. Hamilton appointed as master; Normanby, Miss Jessie Brown appointed; T.Jones, who applied for a pupil-teachership, was requested to for. ward bis testimonials. NEW MEMBERS. The result of the voting for members, vice Messrs. Watt, Bridge, and Bate, was as follows: — J. Notman 50, G. S. Bridge 46, G. Y. Bate 44, A Laird 29, and R. A. Adams 15. Messrs. Notman, Bridgp, aud Bate were declared ekc.ed. MANAIA. Mr. Bridge reported on certain improvements required at the Manaia School. The bellcot, valleys, and down-piping would have to be attended to at once. Mr. Baker objected to retaining tbe v bellcot. The Rev. Mr. Ross thought it could be retained in its present position ; in fact, the architect showed that it would cost as much to repair the building, by re1 moving the cot, as it would to leave it there. Mr. Sanson moved that tbe architect be instructed to have the bellcot aud valleys made watertight and drainage attended to, cost not to exceed the architect's estimate. Seconded by Mr. Baker and carried. Mr. Fry thought tbe attention of the committee should be called to their neglect of duty in not attending to the roof before this. With respect to future drainage, it was resolved that that architect be instructed to attend to drainage in drawing the plans of new schools. NORMANBY. Application for requisites from teacher. Referred back ; to be sent through ihe committee. SKEET ROAD. A number of settlers wrote requesting a school distiict be established near Manaia aud Skeek roads, there beiug 37 children of school age in the district. Moved by Mr. Bridge, That an aided school be offered. Seconded by Mr. Sanson and carried. THE MANAIA SQUABBLE. Mr. Bate said he had been requested to bring the Manaia matter up, but had advised the committee to fight it out at the election of the new school committee, and when the new members of the board had been elected. The committee had asked him to inquire whether a resolution of the committee, requesting the board to dismiss Mr. Wilks, had been before the board. Several of theinembers stated that they remembered distinctly the letter having been read and dealt with. HAWERA. Application for sclioof requisites, and also iov repairs reqtiived 'o the school resideuce. School requisites to be supplied, and committee to be requested to attend to the repairs.
