FATAL ACCIDENT.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) • WELLINGTON, January 24. ' A fatal accident occurred just before 11 a.m., at Hayman's brick store, Lambton Quay. The lift was sent up with a light load, and, upon reaching the second floor, the chain broke. In the lift were a boy and a man named William Kitchen. The former escaped with a few bruises, but the latter was horribly mangled, and died instantly. Both thighs were broken and the stomach was torn open, and there was a ghastly wound on the head. It is not at present quite clear how Kitchen came to be killed, while the boy was merely bruised, but probably he was crushed against timbers in his descent.
