NAPIER, December 18.

By 1 p.m. the fire subsided, but was still smouldering over two acres, where stood some of the finest buildings in town. Noihing is standing but a few chimneys and strong rooms. Both sides of Tenny-son-street, and all the warehouses and KCons in Emerson-street have goae. The Telegraph aud Herald offices are wrecks, and the News ia destroyed in front, and the inside damaged severely by water. Notwithstanding, the Telegraph appears tonight as usual. Mr. Enowles, the proprietor, caught a steamer, and has gone to Wellington to get a fresh plant. The Herald saved a great quantity of type, bat their )osg will amonal to £1500 beyond £4000 insurance. The Masonic Hall is still in dames, and is not insured.

NAPIER, December 19.

Tbe follpwing places were destroyed at Saturday's fire in addition to those previously telegraphed : — W. Ellison's survey office; Chamberlain's, comission agent; Thain's, saddler; and Cakin tnd Co'i sheep dip maunfaotory. The Criterion HoCei was eared with difficulty.

Owing to the destruction of the Insurance Office full insurances cannot be obtained.

Insurances : The South British estimate their loss at £8130; New Zealand, £2440; Colonial, £1080; London and Lancashire, £400. The Union is believed to be the heaviest loser. Tbe insurance on the Daily Telegraph is only The loes eiceeig tbat turn by £2000. The Herald is insured for £4000, bat the proprietors estimate their loss at about £1500 additional.
