(PLR UNITED PRi:SS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, August 13. The American warship Mohican is expected from Fiji on the '20th. Only 1-43 men have, as yet, accepted employment at the railway works on tho \Yoodville-Ka\paYß line, where there )9 employment for double that number. Of tour unemployed contracts let by the corporation, one of the parties have never started work, though a week has elapsed, and they have practically abandoned it. CHRISTCHURCH, August 18. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Shipping Company, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The retiring directors were re-elected. Mr. Murray-Annsley presided, aud said the directors were not favorable to transferring the management to London. It would not be Decesaary to make a further call on the shareholders, unless unforeseen circumstances arose. The directors conlcl not recommend a dividend, though about £'37,000 had been made over the expenses. They proposed to strengthen the reserve and depreciation account by jE30,000, and to carry forward X' 12,000. The statements made in Fair Play of June 18th as to a mortgage on the fleet were incorrect, and based on wrong information.
