NEW PLYMOUTH, June 16,

A large meetin? of ratepayers was held last evening to protest against a portion of the borough being made over to trustees instead of to the corporation. The speakers charged Major Atkinson and Colonel Trimble with making an incorrect statement in the House respecting the matter, and that the Premier had agreed to 6ee that the interest of the corporation was not neglected when tbe passing of the bill came on. A resolution protesting against the passing of the bill was carried by two-thirds of those present. A petition is being largely signed to send to the Upper House against the bill.
