MANAIA.

(from our own correspondent.) The Presbyterian congregation held a meeting on Friday evening for the election of a committee, and general business. The Eev. J. Torry occupied the chair. The following gentlemen were elected as a committee of management : — Messrs. Christie, Davidson, Glenn, McCutchan, and McKay. Mr. McCutchan was elected secretary, and Mr. Dawson treasurer. The following gentlemen were appointed trustees for a church site, whsn oue shall have been purchased — Messrs. Christie, Glenn, Livingston, and McCutchan. The offer of the Wesley an body to allow the use of the church on alternate Sundays was discussed, and it was finally decided that the chairman should interview the Key. Mr. Mather with a view to accepting the offer and arrange details. It is understood that the Wesleyans give up every j alternate Sunday for the sole use of the Presbyterian congregation. This arrangement seems to me the best which could possibly be made for both denominations, for there is a probability of the one service every Sunday being well-attended by the members of both congregations — thereby putting a little more life into the services. A choir practice could now be arranged with little difficulty, and as there is a good organ in the church, this should be to many a pleasant wty of spending an evening weekly. I am glad to see, on the one hand, the proposal made freely, and, on the other, the offer freely accepted, as it shows on both sides an earnest wish fa

avoid those petty jealousies which too often obtain in small communities, to the detriment of all concerned.

A public meeting has been called by the chairman of the Town Board upon requisition, to consider (1) tree planting, and (2) acquirement of the drill hall by the Town Board. Both subjects are engaging the attention of settlers just now in Manaia, and with regard to the drill hall, it is urged by some if the Town Board would purchase a section and offer it to Government in exchange for the one on which the hall now stands, that the Government might he induced to bring in a short bill to change the purpose of reserve, or rather band it to the board in fee simple. The meeting is called for Monday night.
