(per united press association. NELSON, This Day. Play was resumed yesterday with fine weather. Auckland continued their 2nd innings, which closed for 98. G Gill, not out 0 Bnckland, b Wigzell 1 Dowe, c Hodder b Wigzell 0 Byes, 9 ; 1 leg-bye 10 Total 98 Later.
The Nelson men, with 154 runs to get, went in for their second innings. The score gradually crept up till the ninth wicket fell for 100. Silcock was the last man, and, both he and Malcolm played most steadilj', and again the Auckland men tried every device with their bowlers, but unavailingly, till the excitement became intense. Nelson wanted 155 runs to win when they commenced the innings, and as the board was altered till 140 appeared up, everybody was keenly watching every ball, and the applause for every hit was loud. After more changes in the bowlers 150 went up, but directly after Silcock hit the ball, bnfc Testro, at long-slip, standiug by the boundary, jumped and held him, and tho Auckland men, who were victorious by four runs, were loudly cheered. Malcolm made 22, and Silcock 33. Tho match was the best and most exciting ever played on tbe ground. Nelson played a splendid nphill game.
