BAND PERFORMANCE.
To the Editor of the Star.
Sir, — The suggestion about the Hawera Band, referred to in your paper oi yesterday, is a very good one. But something is wanted before such a desirable object can be obtained with any satisfaction. Now, Sir, as the trades-people would benefit more than anyone else, I would suggest, without binding the band in any way, that a few of the leading tradesmen should canvass the town for subscriptions, and try to raise a sufficient amount of money to purchase instruments. They are short, and nothing can be done with any pride to to the town, or to the band, when they are so weak in number. I feel sure if this was done, and the instruments procured, our popular young bandmaster would only be too ready to give selections any evening when the weather would permit. If a committee could be formed to carry out the above suggestions, I would willingly subscribe one pound. — I am, &c, A. J. X,
Hawera, November 23.
