This Company is projected with the object of providing the means of preparing for export meat and dairy produce by the refrigerating or other process. The present intention is to prepare the meat and dairy produce for shipment on owner's account, and to arrange for the sale thereof in the London market. The Company has power either to purchase or ship on owner's account, as may be found desirable, and also to control the sale as well as the freezing and export of the produce it being evident that a concentration of interests is necessary in placing shipments on the markets until the trade has been developed. The Company propose to take an interest of £2000 in a new steamer (which is to be built or purchased), containing a cooling chamber capable of stowing 1000 carcases. This will also materially benefit the trade between Wanganui and Wellington. The preparation and storage of - cheese and butter for export will be- : come an important operation of the \ company, and, as the market in Eng- - land for these products is practically : unlimited at prices showing 50 per j cent advance on cheese and 100 per cent on butter over those current in ( the colony, an extensive export may - be anticipated. The Company re- ] cognising this, will provide cool j storage until a vessel is ready to receive it. The necessary appliances for cool j storage have been erected in the j docks at Home. It is expected that the Company will pay a fair dividend on the out- , lay, as the following calculation will r show : — The estimated export per t year is 50,000 carcases, averaging 72lbs each, which, at a cost of £d per lb for freezing, would give a yield a of 3s. per carcase. Taking one-third ( as the profit, it would amount to ] £2500, being interest on a capital of a £20,000 at 12£ per cent. The Company therefore confidently a relies on those who are directly or j. indirectly interested in developing c the grazing and agricultural interests of the district to assist in carrying g out that which, if properly managed, _ cannot fail to be a profitable undertaking.
