NARROW ESCAPE 'FROM FIRE.
* (UNITED PBEBS ASSOCIATION.) INVERCARGILL, This Day. A narrow escapo from a serious* fire' occurred about 9 last night. An upstairs bedroom in the Prince 6f /Wales Hotel was found to bo,, on firo. The flames broko through the roof and the wall, and it seemed at, first impossible to save' the hotel or adjoining promises.- The night being calm, the fird was, however, kept under by a' hose on the premif.es until the engines of .the brigade got to, work, i when; the fire; was extinguished without extending beyond the 1 upper storey of the ,l|Qtel. ; (The^ damage )>y fire a#d,jwatior,& eßtfrnaJe^'at 0 * and is covered by insurance. is mysterious. It broke out in the bedroom of a lodger named Macdonald, who had not been in his room for hours. It began at the head of the bed. The insurance on the hotel was in New Zealand, Liverpool and London and Globe, National, and others, furniture and stock, Colonial and Victoria, £1500.
