THE COLONIAL FINANCES.

EEVENUE EETUENS. A SATISFACTORY RESULT. (PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The returns of revenue for the colony for the six months ended September 30th are now complete, and prove to be extremely satisfactory. The revenue for the six months was— Customs, £741,748; Stamps, .£210,302 ; Beer Duty, £26,709 ; Railways, £458,3.82 ; Depasturing licenses, &c, £'83,058 ; other receipts, £11,400. Total — £1,085,259. The total expenditure during the same period was £1,089,102. The amount under the heading of stamps includes postal and judicial revenues, also fees for land and deed registry, and other fees collected by stamps. The expenditure shown above is the true amount for six months, but as the Treasury accounts are closed on the last day of the quarter, the amounts shown under receipts include only the money appearing in the revenue accounts received up to that date, and therefore do not show the amount received for the last week of the quarter. The amount received after Treasury accounts were closed was, ordinary revenue £48,087, and adding this amount to the sum mentioned above, shows receipts to have been £1,083,380. The sum of £48,089, along with the £4855 received for land sales, will be included in the accounts for the December quarter. 1 ' On' the 'side of receipts, no mention 'is' made of the sum due for property tax, the Government, hayie© .' dgfiiUed tqj coH§<& FtUe) whole amount on one date instead of two ( in-, stalments, an arrangement which 'it is believed will be more convenient to the general public. In the Ji -11 account for expenditure, the Government intend to disburse the whole of the j amount (£200,000) which they carried from the previous year, so that taking the half (£100,000), that will show the ad-ditional-expenditure. The amount received for land sales was £113,029, and that appearing -for appropriations, actual and permanent, £84,023. ' / ? \
