At. the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey Club, on 'the IStlrult., a satisfactory balance-sheet was presented. The ■' actual receipts were ' £1175 ; the expenditure! £1642, leaving a balance in baud of £505. £1171 was paid in stakes at the Autumn Steeplechase meeting. A small loss resulted from holding the latter. £288, has been spent on permanent improvements. It is intended to effect a mortgage on the grand stand during the current year. The racecourse is now let at £120 per annum. The Duke of Westminster's racehorse Shotover won the Two Thousand Guineas, the Derby, and ran third for the St. Ledger, this year ; Lord Falmouth's Dutch Otfen being the winner of the latter event. The Goodwood Cup race resulted as follows : — Duke of Hamilton's Friday, 1 ; C. T. Lefevre's Tristan, 2 ; F. Gretton's Geologist, 8. The winner was ridden by E. Martyn.
