THE AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN. ALL-ENGLAND DEFEATED.
[Rkuteu's Agency.] LONDON, August 28. The cricket match between the Australians and a team representing AllEngland was commenced to-day at Leufiingtou Oval. The Australian wickets fell very rapidly, and the innings closed for G3. The Englishmen then went to the wicketa and were all disposed of for 101. Barlow, Ulyett, aud A. G. Steel were the only pla3 r ers who succeeded in making double figures. The following is the full score : — Australians, Ist innings : Bannerman, c, 0 ; Massie, b, 1 ; Murdoch, b, 13 ; Bonuor, b, 1 ; Horau, b, 3 ; Giffen, b, 2; Blackham, c, 17; Garrett, b, 10; Boyle, 1.b.w., 2 ; Jones, c, 0 ; Spoflbrth, not out, 4 ; sundries, 1. Tlie'second innings of the visitors has closed for a total of 122 runs. Later. The cricket match between the Australian team aud the All-Euglaud Eleven was concluded to-day at the Oval. The latter, in their second inuings, only succeeded in scoring 77 runs, the Australians thus winning the match by seven runs. The following are the scores :— Australians — First iuniugs, 03 ; second innings, 122. All-England Eleven— First innings, 101 ; second inuings, 77. (akgus special.) LONDON, August 29. The brilliant victory of tlie Australian Eleven is generally attributed to the excellence of the Australian bowling. The Standard says the Australian victory was thoroughly - well deserved, aud was secured by really good play. The Sportsman hopes the defeat will teach the English cricketers to control
their nerves and' cultivate a spirit' of determination -.and steadiness. There were at least 20,000 spectators at the conclasion of the match, and an hour before the last English wicket fell the odds of GO to 1 were freely offered on their win- 1 * ning. w ___^ m ______^___
