FIRE INQUEST AT STRATORD.

The inquest on the fire at Straford was held ' yesterday, August 31st, and.'lasted five aud a half hours. Mr. Mehaffy was under examination for three hours. Mr. Hughes appeared for the Victoria Com' pany, holding a risk of on the, house and £o0 on the stable. Mr. Mehaffy deposed to giving j£l37 for the furniture and £i 10s. for the stock. The estimated value of the stock was £120 ;• and he had put in fresh furniture to the value of £17, thus making £274; but he considered that his loss was £110 in excess of amount of insurance money, but could not make it tip by details.. The furniture and stock were protected to the amount of £400. The witnesses were Messrs. Mehaffy, Duncan, Taylor, and Jackson; aud a verdict was given to the effect that there was no evidence to show how the fire originated. T. W. Smith, Esq., J.P.; was acting coroner.
