♦ MESSRS. CHARLES POWNALL AND CO.'S REPORT. Messrs. Chas, Pownall and Co., scriveners, Wellington, report that since their last quotations a dull month, with scarcely any business transacted, lirb elapsed. The money market has been languid, in consequence of the small demand for mortgage investments, without any change in the rate of interest, which must still be quoted from Gi to 8 per cent., adjusted to the amount required. Money, notwithstanding the war with Egypt, remains cheap in the Old Country, namely, from 2 to 3 per cent., and so long as this is the case no significant advance in value ia likely to occur here ; but in the event of any large demand arising, tho present supply being limited, higher rates for the time might possibly rale.
