VOLUNTEER RIFLE CONTEST.
The firing for Corporal Hicks' medal was held on Saturday last in spite of the wet and stormy weather. Twenty-two members competed, and some very good shooting was made, Sergeant Hurley scoring no less than 56 out of a poßßiWe 60. At times the misty rain almost hid the target, which accounts for some of the beat shots having failed to score up to their usual average. Besides which, the cold and wet always affects some persons more than others, consequently Saturday's match was to some extent a trial of fortitude and endurance as well as of. marksman's skill. The number who competed speaks well for the-corps, and shows that our citizen soldiers are no carpet knightß. We append the scores :—
