THE VACANT MAYORALTY.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR, ' Sir, — In apswer to numerous enquiries from the burgefses generally as to whether ' .1 -was a candidate, for- the mayoralty, permit me to state that I 'eobsider Mr. McQtiire should re-consider' his determination, and be requested to 'allow himself to be nominated again on Monday. I think that gentleman- ought to complete his term of office.. Should he decline to 'again stand, it' is' my intention to become a candidate, as Ijimcpnyinced, by a close investigation, that the affairs of the borough require to be "dealt with firmly and decisively. '! I -would 'point out- one/ by no means peculiar illustration : tbV Mayor resigned- last Wednesday, the Engineer is dangerously ill, the Town Clerk has been I absent in Wanganui, and ,the Borough Offices closed since Saturday last, - Yesterday when Mr. Harris^ tlie railway 1 lnanagfr, wished to confer >e the stoppage of gravel, it was by .the merest' chance be 'saw ' a councillor, with whom he ho|d * conversation ; the result of which (has been that a special meeting of the. council was .ordered for Friday, by three conn- ! cillbrs. This, again, cauuot .be earned: out, because there is no clerk td send' out Jbhe notices within the necessary time; — I am, . i ■ y Max. D.^KtNG.
