The Star. FRIDAY, MAY 19, 1882. THE NEXT LAND SALE.
We are informed that the next land sale on this coast will be held cither in the end of June or early in July. It has been determined to make as large a sale as possible in the present instance, in order to attract buyers from a distance. So far as we can learn, fully 20,000 acres will be offered, of which the greater portion will be open, or partly open land; much of it quite equal in quality to any yet disposed of on this coast. Tbe decision arrived at by the authorities to make tbe sale as attractive as possible by offering a considerable area at one time, will be generally approved throughout tbe district. The largest block to be offered is situated at and near Oeo ; then there are three recently confiscated portions of the Continuous Reserve; 5000 acres of level bush land at the back of Manaia and Oeo; and about 4000 acres of bush land which has been offered at auction but not taken up.
Some exception may be taken to the sale being held in winter, when bad roads and weather somewhat interfere with and detard travellers. But it is only fair to point out that the .settlers, in many cases, reap tbe benefit; as those who take up bush land can commence operations and start felling the bush almost immediately, and thus save a year's loss of time and interest on capital invested.
