GAS FOR HAWERA.

TO THE EDITOE OP TIIE t STAE. Sic, — The question of promoting a gas supply for lighting up our streets is one which I think might fairly be taken into consideration by the Borough Council. No one will dispute its necessity, and the only objection that can be raised against it is whether or not it will pay, and this, t think, can easily be answeied in the affirmative, if ■we are to judge of the large/dividends paid by Gas Cornpanieß in other places not larger than Hawera. At any rate the subject is worth careful consideration, and I hope to see the matter mooted by one of our Councillors at an early date.— Yours, &c.,

Lamp-post.
