" WAYS THAT ARE DARK."
WELLINGTON, This Day.
The sculler who rowed against White in Auckland under the name of Carter arrived here yesterday by the Wanaka. His boat was placed in the Star Boating Club's shed, but during the day Carter and Messenger, a • 'crack" Victorian rower, were found to be one and the same person. The club immediately called upon Mes senger to explain satisfactorily his reason for travelling under an alias, failing which he would have to remove his boat. No explanation being forthcoming, Messenger was ordered to take his boat from the shed.
