DREADFUL ACCIDENT AT THE WANGANUI RIFLE BUTTS.

+ , (from our own correspondent.) WANGANUI, This Day. This morning, at the rifle butts, Volunteer George' Henry Watts, of the Wanganui Rifles, whilst marking at the 400 yards range, was accidentally shot by Bandsman Mettam, of the same corps. Watts had removed the danger signal, and unaccoutably came out in front of the target just us the shot was fired. No blame attaches to Mettam. The bullet entered behind the right ear and came out over the right temple, carrying away a large portion of brain. Watts still lives, but no hopes of his recovery are entertained. He is 28 years old, single, and a furniture polisher. He is much respected as a volunteer and fireman.
