This Day.
(Before Captain Wilson, Messrs. McGuire and Livingston, J.P.'s.) - ALLEGED HORSE STEAUNG. Joseph Chadwick, of Manaia, waa charged, on the information of Tairoakana, with having, on 18th December, stolen one horse, the property of informant. Sergeant Cahill applied for an amendment of the information in respect to the brand, the informant having made a mistake. Mr. Samuels appeared for defendant, and offered no objection, though he said it would be a subject of comment. He then applied for a remand, saying accused had been charged at New Plymouth just; as he was about leaving for Auckland with the horse. He had been remanded on bail from there, and had only arrived in Hawera this morniug. Accused had not, therefore, had time to get np his defence, especially seejn^uat^feJtfcßae, one of his witn^g§eiT^as in Wellington. He was prepared to give substantial bail N from Messrs. ; Nolan and Prosser, and he had no doubt it would be accepted, as from Mr. Chadwick's position he was not likely to have committed such an offence. Bail was accepted-} 4wo snreties in .£SO each, and defendant in £100..
Defendant was remanded till the Bth January.
