PATEA.
— «. • (from our own correspondent.) The heavy rains are interfering very ranch with haymaking — as usual at this time of the y<'ar — and shearing is mizch delayed ; but tbe Patea is kept constantly going with full loads. Mr. Barker has imported a grass seed stripper, the first seen in the district. If successful with our heavy crops, it will be of immense value. At the B. M. Court yesterday, a notorious offender in the shape of disturbing the peace, (Mrs. Q. White,) was sentenced to £5 fine or 30 days ; the latter of which was chosen. Captain "Wray remarked he would like to have had the power to imprison without option of fine in such cases as this. As a proof of the increasing value of property, even some distance from the business part oi bhe town, a quarter section in the Agricultural Association paddock was puvchased this week at about 355. per foot ; and others in the same locality are in treaty at a slightly lower figure. Good residence sites are few and far between. Dec. 17.
