. Some of Mr. Hutchison's prominent supporters are circulating a manifesto 6tating that, if returned, their candidate will have the Mountain road at once regravelled (nobody admits that it has been gravelled at all as yet) from Stratford to Mangawhero. Now, you kuow, that is a ,very tempting bait to bold out, and Mr. Hutchison evidently understands electioneering. Some people, too, say that the Boylan road is to be formed and gravelled at the expense of tbe Government, which would be very nice. I see, how- | ever, that Mr. Hutchison is not going to address us here agaiu : whence this i thusness ?

We have had some beautiful rains this week, and feed ie moat abundant generally ; tbe g&X'ienß, however, are plagued with black grasshoppers, which decline to allow anything to get more than two leaves above ground, if they cau help it ; kerosene is beiug tried, sprinkled over the seed-beds, with apparently good results.

An inspection parade of the ' Stratford Bangers was held this afternoon by Major Stupp, 34 being present. Those who have gone through the uecessary drill are offered £1 capitation, or a pair of eerge trousers Nov. 26.
