THIS SEASON IN THE Hawera, Manutahi.,. and Manaia DiBTBICTB, The Pure-bred Clydesdale Stallion KNOCKDON, A Bright Bay, rising five years, old, standing' 16%' hands high, with immense muscular power and BpleiiiHiilkchionl Knockdon is out of the ' celebrated mare Princess. Princess by Emperor, out of the celebrated- mare Kate, imported by the late- Mr. James Strachan. Princess took first prize in Timaru in 1874, against eleven brood mares. JEmperor gained three first and three second prizes, being beaten only by 1 Ma sire, Napoleon. ' Knockdon's sire was bred by James N. Fleming,. Esq., of Knockdon, out of the renowned .mare Rosie,., by <, Prince Christian. Prince Christian was also bred by Mr. Fleming ; was by his horse Prince- Consort', out of his prize mare Nell. Rosie was also bred by Mr. Fleming ; her sire was bred by Major Findlay, of Eastern Hill, out of a Highland And Agricultural Society's prize-winner. Her dam, Old Rosie, gained first prize as a three-year-old at the Highland and Agricultural Society's Show at Dumfries, and as a brood mare the following year at Kelso. Rosie gained 'many prizes in Scotland, amongst others, first, as a two-year-old at Ayr, 1867 ; first, as a three-year-old at Ayr, 1868; second, as a brood mare at Ayr and' Maybole, 1869 ; and first as a brood mare at Ayr, in 1871 ; same day winning sweepstakes for best brood mare, open to Scotland. She was beaten at Ayr and Maybole, in 1869, by Mr. Fleming's mare Salt, but was placed before the same mare in 1871. As a brood mare, Rosie has not been surpassed. Her first foal, a filly, was four times first as a yearling — viz., at Ayr, Glasgow, "Slay- \ bole, and Highland and Agrioaltvwal ! These winnings included Glasgow, East Kilbride, and Highland and Agricultural Sqciety/s" Show at Perth... In 1872, she. was again first at Ayr. In 1872, she was agaja first at Ayr and Glasgow. At present,; she fa considered the best of her age in' Scotland. Her next foal was Knockdon. He was foaled on the 26th May, 1871, and gained the first prize- at' Ayr, and second at Glasgow, m 1872,- anci first ah Tunaru as a three-year old, in 1873 ,- and first again in 1875, against all comers. Knockdqn took first prize * n Timanl, as. a yearling ; 'first in Wanganni as a two-year-old; first in Wanganui as a three-year-old ; first ip. Wawrley for all horses.'
