Manaia, Yesterday. The opening sale at my new yards, Mauaia. Waimate Plaiuß, took place on the 11th inst. Mr. W. Cowern. of Patea, conducted the Bale. About 150 head of atttlo dame forward, ot which 109 -were eqW at tha a.v«tion.> mostly aM heifeta, Yearlings fetched L 2. IGb to L 2. 18a; heifers, Lo 7b 6d; old cows, L 3 ss; cowsl and calves, L4 lls to L 5 7s 6d. For 2-yenr-old steers L 3 17b 6d and L 4 was offered and refused. Several horses were ■did at satisfactory prices. Now that it jttij be confidently hoped no disturbance is likely to ensue vritn the natives, these sales will probably become very popular. The yards are new and very commodious. A large auction room is being erected, and 1 contemplate wielding the hammer my•elf after next licensing day.

The sales during the post fortnight have not been so well attended. Prices are ■about the same, and all stock offered have teen cleared nt or after tbe auction.

Cattle. — At Hawera 346 head were 80ld — Store and forward bullocks, 3-year-old, £5 ■6b to £5 15b ; corns and calves, JS3 25s to JMl2a Gd; CO\?8, £3 to £& 6a « 2,-jcaT-old «teera, £3 17b 6d to £4 ; yearlings, JB2 to JB3. At the yards to-day — Fat bullocks, £7 7s to .£8; store bullocks, £b 3s 6d; cows, £9 15s j yearlings, £2 12s 6d. Sheep. — Fat wethers, shorn, 9s 6d ; ewes, 10s 9d ; unshorn wethers, 15s. Horses. — A large number came forward — Unbroken draught fillies, 3-year-old, £Q 15s to £15; draughts. £17 10s to £22; Tmokß, £7 to £10; screws and weeds, £1 10s to £3.
