Sic, — It is currently reported that Mr. Davidson has come forward as a candidate for the office of mayor under the patronage and at the instigation of Mr. McCutchan. This is such an astounding announcement, considering the bitter denunciation of Mr. Davidson by Mr. McCutchan when the latter gentleman defeated Mr. Davidson iv the Town Board election, that every one is taken by surprise ; and one gentleman whom I heard mention the matter thought it a most unholy alliance. It is curious since Mr. McCutchan was not a success as a membor of the Town Board, that he should want to have a mayor subject to his patronage for his position. I am afraid the alliance is doomed to an early rupture, as each of the contracting parties is noted for firmness and a little hot-headedness. — I am, &c,
